Neri Oxman, a design professor at MIT, wanted to explore how myth could be translated into a working, new technology. She and her colleagues spent five years researching and designing clothing that augmented human capabilities. Using the upcoming technology of 3-D printing, a creation that Oxman calls a “paradigm shift,” the team designed the show Imaginary Beings: Mythologies Of The Not Yet with 18 prototypes that were on display at Paris’ Centre Pompidou last summer.
