Domain Keepers owns and manages a variety of domain names (currently 600+) that are held in trust for public purpose.
We have been collecting what we call “self-explanatory” community-useful domain names since 1996. Most of our domain collection is focused on domains we have purchased because they might be useful at some point by not-for-profit organizations or individuals with an idea that could benefit the community.
Recently, as people have started to become aware of the Domain Keepers mission, people have begun to donate domains which they own and feel could be put to good public use. Domain Keepers then becomes responsible for maintaining registration and filtering approaches for potential use.
This is a work in progress where domains will be added to the list frequently over the next few weeks.
There are 3 main points to the Domain Keepers mission:
- We strive to work with people and organizations who have good ideas that can benefit the public either directly or indirectly.
- In most cases we tend to lease domains to organizations for a nominal fee for a proscribed period for specific use.
- Occasionally, the possibility does exist for outright donation or sale – this will be determined on a case by case basis. All proceeds from any sale or for-profit activities will be reinvested in our ongoing mission.
- While we hold these domains for public purpose, we populate each site with thematically interesting links and relevant ads that we hope you will find of use. All proceeds go to maintaining our domain list which costs thousands of dollars to maintain annually.
Please contact us with your idea or your proposal – we are open to all interesting ideas and encourage individuals and organizations with those great ideas to contact us for potential collaboration, help and support.
Domain Keepers is a project of Innovation Toronto.
